AI Learning System ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of students and their families. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account we collect:

• Username — used to identify your account.
• Email address — used for account verification and password recovery. Optional but recommended.
• Mobile number — optional; used only for account recovery if you choose to provide it.
• Date of birth — used to personalise age-appropriate content and to confirm you meet the minimum age requirement.
• Class level (Grade 5–10) — used to deliver the correct NCERT curriculum.

As you use the platform we also collect:

• Problem attempts, answers submitted, and correctness.
• Learning progress, stage advancement, and Elo rating.
• Session timestamps and feature usage patterns.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Deliver personalised NCERT lessons and practice problems.
• Track your learning progress across sessions.
• Generate AI-powered explanations and hints.
• Send account-related emails (verification, password reset).
• Detect and prevent abuse or fraudulent activity.
• Improve the platform through aggregated, anonymised analytics.

3. AI Processing

AI Learning System uses the OpenAI API to generate explanations, hints, and tutor responses. When you interact with the AI tutor, the content of your question and your answer is sent to OpenAI's servers for processing. OpenAI's use of this data is governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

We do not send your name, email address, or any other personally identifying information to OpenAI.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties except:

• OpenAI — for AI-generated responses (anonymised question/answer text only, as described above).
• Infrastructure providers — our hosting provider (Railway) stores data on our behalf under strict data-processing agreements.
• Legal requirements — if required by applicable law, court order, or governmental authority.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Children's Privacy

AI Learning System is designed for students in Grades 5–10 (typically 10–16 years old). We encourage parents and guardians to review their child's use of the platform. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe your child has provided information without your consent, please contact us.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data:

• Passwords are stored as salted bcrypt hashes — we never store plain text passwords.
• All connections are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
• Password reset and email verification tokens expire within 30 minutes and 24 hours respectively.

8. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser localStorage to store your login token (JWT) so you remain signed in between visits. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
